I am a mom, wife, friend, teacher, lawyer, school board member, activist, and follower of Jesus. (Not necessarily in that order.) I hold a lot of different roles, different titles, different responsibilities, and different passions. All of these different dots will eventually be brought into an order for a purpose, but sometimes in the day-to-day to it’s hard to see the direction. What I’ve come to realize is that God made me this way. I don’t need to apologize for being all of who I am, and I don’t need to hide any of these different pieces. I am passionate about a lot of things. I love to learn and I like to sort through complex issues.
I am passionate about education. I am passionate about civil rights and freedom. I am passionate about the Church…learning to love people well, serve others, and let God be judge. I am passionate about government, and being an involved, engaged citizen. There’s a theme to all of these issues, though – these each are complex issues. I don’t claim to have the right answer to any of this. I write and I discuss to sort through issues for myself. I am not intimidated by people who think differently; I welcome and invite the conversation and I know that working through different opinions will ultimately make me a better, more informed person, get me closer to the Truth, and closer to my God. I am also learning to find my voice, and not be afraid to speak out when I believe something needs to be said. God knows I am a broken, messy person and I often don’t get ‘it’ right. My hope is that when I am brave enough to be loud, we can all meet each other with grace, kindness, and respect.
So, my fellow sojourners… Let us get to know Him together. Let us endeavor to find truth together, and to keep open minds and learn. Let us invite conversation and ideas. Let us practice holding all of ourselves and all of each other in love and peace.
